The Music of The Tonearms

We take a casual and fun approach to jazz, playing songs from a variety of genres. We play songbook standards, Bossa Nova classics, some swing, a little blues, a few rock-infused songs, and some music that’s difficult to categorize. In other words, a bit of everything. It’s the music that we enjoy and we think you will too. Click on the tabs below and listen to some samples, each about five minutes long.

A Sample of The Tonearms

Phil sings the standard “All Of Me,” which is followed by “Blue Bossa” played in a Wes Montgomery influenced style. You will hear a swinging guitar interpretation of “East Of The Sun” and then Greg’s own vocal styling of “Frim Fram Sauce,” a song made popular by Nat Cole.

This sample opens with the Bossa Nova classic “Manhã De Carnival” or the “Theme From Black Orpheus” with Greg introducing the melody on bass. Miles Davis’s “All Blues” follows with a little Wes Montgomery influence, followed by Phil singing “I Thought About You.” We close this sample by giving Bob a drum solo on “Out Of Nowhere.”

And Another Sample of The Tonearms

Greg sings the Fats Waller tune “Blue Turning Grey Over You” and then we do a favorite Antonio Carlos Jobim song “Corcovado” or “Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars.” Bobby Troup’s most well known song “Route 66” is sung by Phil, and we close with the outro of Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia On My Mind.”

Finally, if your event calls for a somewhat larger group of musicians, we can add keyboard, a featured singer, or a horn or two. Also, if you want us to include some special songs, we’re open to that too. Just let us know.
